If you want to experience a soothing atmosphere for a few days from the mundane city life, Chiplun is the right place for you. It isn’t a fast and vibrant city like any metropolis but is not all that slow either. The various attractions of the place make Chiplun a very interesting place to visit during vacation. Its proximity to the major metros of the state makes it a popular getaway for the weekends and during the holidays. The place offers tranquility due to the existence of the beautiful nature and the natural spots that are so attractive.
Some of the main attractions are the River Vashishti on the banks of which the city is located. Here tourists can enjoy various sports activities and also enjoy the beautiful scenery here. Besides, there are some iconic temples here like the Lord Parshurama temple, where tourists flock to visit during special days.

Best time to visit
Chiplun has great weather, and you can enjoy it for any season. If you do not mind the heat and the sun, you can also enjoy sightseeing during the summer. However, the winter season is the best season to visit Chiplun that is from the months of November to February.
Summer – Summer starts from March and stays on till May. These are the hottest months, and the temperature can rise up to 42 degree Celsius.

How to reach
Chiplun is located on the main state way and national highway. You can easily reach Chiplun as it is not in any remote area, but is very close to many metros.
Air – To reach Chiplun you have to take a flight to Ratnagiri airport. There are many regular flights that can help you land in Ratnagiri. It is around 50 km from Chiplun. From here you can take the taxi or the bus to reach Chiplun.
Railway – Chiplun is blessed with its own railway station so coming here by train is no issue at all. The station is well connected with Mumbai and other cities, and so you can easily reach Chiplun from any part of the country.
Road – The National Highway 66 connects Chiplun and Mumbai. The roads are very well maintained, and you can find regular buses, private taxis, etc. that ply on this route regularly. You can also take your own car to Chiplun.

Religious

The main religion followed here is Hindu with 83% of the population, followed by Islam around 12% and the rest including Jains, Christians, Buddhists Parsis, etc. There are many famous and interesting places that you can visit in Chiplun. Temples like the Sai Mandir, Datta Mandir, Shri Parshuram Mandir, Gaondevi Mandir and the Mary Martha Church along with various mosques are some of the attractions here.

Historical

There is very little history to Chiplun although it was a prominent trading city during the past. It was ruled by various rulers and also the British. Today you can see the government office is the only historical palace, which was used by Bajirao Peshwa as his home. Besides these, there are several temples which were built centuries back like the Parshuram Temple, which is quite interesting. The Gowalkot fort is another structure that is in ruins but a historical presence here.

There are various industries and factories that are set up in Chiplun. Since the olden times, Chiplun has been a prominent trading center for businesses. The place today has emerged as one of the significant places when it comes to trading.

* Koyna wildlife sanctuary – this place is a little away from Chiplun, but is a marvelous place with dense forests and the catchment area of Shivajisagar Lake.
