Ganapatipule is a village on the Konkan coast that comprise of a series of beaches and superb vantage points, which offer some of the stunning views of the Arabian Sea. Ganapatipule is a beach town that experiences tropical climate. The weather is hot and humid, and that is why the best months to visit are from November to February.
Summer – The summer begins in March and ends in May. The temperature is very high during this time and reaches almost 42 degree Celsius.
Monsoons – After the scorching heat, the monsoons bring pleasant climate and cool winds. There are heavy rains here, and that is why the sea too is rough and not recommended for any activities. The monsoons begin in June and end by October.
Winter – Winter begins in November and lasts through February. The temperature is low and provides a cool and pleasant climate.
How to reach
Air –The nearest airport is only 30 km from Ganapatipule and is located in Ratnagiri. There are regular flights here from Mumbai and Pune. One can easily reach Mumbai and from there are buses, taxis, railways, etc. to reach Ganapatipule.
Railway –The nearest railway station is at Ratnagiri and Bhoke. Many trains stop on this route and from there one can take a taxi and bus to reach Ganapatipule, which is just 50 km away. The train connects to various parts of the country.
Bus –By road Mumbai is 375 km and Pune is 331 km. There are regular buses that run from various metro cities like Kolhapur, Goa, Pen, etc. Ganapatipule lies on the national highway no. 17, which has a good connectivity to other cities.

Ganapatipule is a pilgrimage town with lots of pilgrims visiting the place for different festivals and fairs. The Swayambhu Ganesh temple is the most popular temple here, which is around 400 years old and is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. It is a self-incarnated idol of Lord Ganesh and is the deity of thousands of people in and around Ratnagiri.

Museum

There is one prominent museum in Ganapatipule known as the Prachin Konkan that is dedicated to the Konkan area. This open air museum takes you to the ancient times of this region, which is quite interesting and amazing. The other museum is in Ratnagiri and known as the Aquarium and Museum, which comprises of different types of fish species and their information. It is a unique fisheries museum that comprises of 1300 nos. of specimens. You can also check the age old skeleton of a whale which is 55 feet in length and 5000 kg in weight.

Here you can find secluded beaches right from Jaigad to Ratnagiri that are separated by the rocky cliffs. The beaches come with white sands. The Ratnagiri beach is also a wonderful beach, which is known as the Mandvi beach and is very near to the city and most popular as well. Bhatye beach is also a nice beach that is vast and immensely beautiful with rocks and mountains and greenery. The twin beaches of Are – Ware too are nothing short of excitement and the Gaywadi beach in Malgund is another attraction here.

Historical

Ganpatipule is not just an attractive beachside village, but also has a rich history. The Ratnagiri district was conquered by various rulers, and they have left back their mark here on the soil. The Ratnadurg fort in Ratnagiri is a large fort and is also the main attractions for those who visit Ratnagiri. Jaigad is another interesting fort that was built in the 17th century and is around 15 km from Ganapatipule. From here you can view the stunning evening vies of the sea and the setting sun. It is now in ruins, but you can see the confluence of river Sangameshwar and the Arabian Sea. You should also not miss the Thibaw Palace in Ratnangiri district, which was the palace built for Burma king who was exiled.

Ganpatipule serves you the best Konkani food that comprises of fish, fish curries, rice and the kadhi made of Kokum. Traditional Maharashtrian food is also served here, which should be tried as well. Try the Ambapoli, Phanaspoli and the Modak, the favorite of Lord Ganesh and will want to have more. The MTCD serves great food that is vegetarian as well as non–vegetarian meals. Hotel Sammer is another good option here. The other restaurants are Bhau Joshi Bhojnalay, Konkani spice and more.
