Visit the stunning abode of God – Grishneshwar

Grishneshwar is the 12th Jyotirlingas and a pre-historical temple that is an architectural marvel. The temple has inscriptions that are a source of attraction for the inquisitive visitors. Grishneshwar temple is built with brilliant red stones and is created to make five shikhara. The temple is 24 x 165 feet tall and has beautiful carvings and sculptures of various Indian Gods and Goddesses. The temple does have a very religious and historical significance and the local have great devotion towards Lord Shiva. Holy water has been sprung from inside the temple. Besides, the stone edifice has frizes in distinct bands which come in yellow, rust and pink colors.
The legend has it that Lord Shiva was impressed with the devotion of the wife of Brahmavetta Sudharm and to please here, he gave her a boon. Impressed with her generosity, Lord Shiva, according to her wishes, agreed to stay forever in Grishneshwar for the benefit of mankind. The temple was built by Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century.

Best time to visit
The best time to visit is from November to February during the winters, and the temperatures are low compared to the other seasons. Visitors also flock to the place during this period.
Summer – Summer season begins in March and ends by May. The temperature is the highest, which reaches almost 42 to 43 degree Celsius. The heat is unbearable and, therefore, makes visiting the temple very tiresome and exhausting.
Monsoons – Monsoons bring heavy rains here and begin from the month of June and lasts through October. The climate is a little more pleasant, and you get respite from the scorching heat.
Winter – Winter is the best season here with low temperature during the day and pleasing at night. The months of the winter season are from November to February.

How to reach
Reaching by the roads or air or even by the rail is easy here and convenient as well. Grishneshwar is around 30 km from Aurangabad and 392 km from Mumbai and Pune 229 km and Nasik 221 km. It has a good access to various other major cities and towns.
Air –The nearest airport is in Aurangabad – The Chikalthana airport, which is 30 km from Ghrishneshwar. From here you can take the taxi or the buses, which can help you reach Grishneshwar. Regular flights fly from here to other major cities that are nearby.
Railway – The nearest railway station is in Aurangabad. Manmad is a major junction which is 140 km from here. Many major trains halt here from all over the country. The Aurangabad railway station is 22 km from Grishneshwar and Manmad junction 86 km from Grishneshwar.
Road – Grishneshwar has a good network or road. You can first enter Aurangabad from here you can take the route to Grishneshwar, which is 30 km. Various major cities are connected by road and travelling by road is also very convenient as well.

Religion

Grishneshwar is a small village with the main attraction being the temple of Lord Shiva. This is the temple and the reason why many people love to visit the place. It is the last Jyotirlinga of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. The temple is actually in the village called Verul that is 11 km from Daulatabad. There are several other temples around Grishneshwar and in Aurangabad. The Kailasa temple in Ellora is a fantastic temple which is world renowned for its marvelous artwork. Other temples can be found in Ajanta caves as well.

Museum

There are no museums in Grishneshwar. You can find one in the city is known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum that showcases the collection related to history and the Maratha kind.

Parks

For parks, you have to come to the city of Aurangabad. The H2O waterpark is an amusement park, which is quite exciting and great for people of all ages. You can also visit the Siddharth garden and the Himayat Bagh in the city.

Near the temple you can shop for several small items like the idols of Lord Shiva and jewelry and semi-precious stones. They are great souvenirs to take back home. For major shopping, you have to visit the Aurangabad city, which is 30 km from here. In the city, you can buy local products like the Paithani silk sarees, Himroo shawls, handloom shawls, and more. Visit the Nirula Bazaar, Gul Mandi, etc.

Historical

The Grishneshwar temple is situated at Verul village, which is 20 km from daulatabad in the Aurangabad district. There are many historic structures close by like the Ellora temples, the forts in Aurangabad, Bibi ka Maqbara, the tomb of Aurangzeb, and much more. The Grishneshwar temple itself is a historical monument that was built in the early centuries was restored in the 18th century by the Queen of Indore, Ahilyabai Holkar.

Restaurant

Grishneshwar does not have a wide range of restaurants. But there are a few small hotels here, which can help you with meals and snacks. In Grishneshwar, you can try the local food, which is vegetarian and the Maharashtrian thali that comprises of delicious vegetable curries, chapati, rice, curd, etc. Try the Kailash Hotel or the Maharaja restaurant, which are both very good. The Ellora restaurant, Shanjini restaurant are some of the best restaurants here.

Adventure

At Grishneshwar, there is nothing in particular that you can indulge in. But you can enjoy activities like paragliding, rafting, trekking, night camping, parasailing in Aurangabad and the nearby areas.

Other attractions

You can visit Aurangabad city and the world heritage site of the Ajanta and Ellora caves.
Ajanta and Ellora caves – the caves are a brilliant piece of history with extraordinary work of art done here. The carvings are unparallel to any with some masterpieces that are not seen anywhere else.
Bibi ka maqbara – inspired by the Taj Mahal, this structure is the resting place of Begum Rabla Baurani. It is a replica of the Taj.
The Panchakki – another interesting site where you can see the water powered flour mill that was built in the 17th century. You will definitely marvel at the work of the engineers of those times.
Grishneshwar is in the village of Verul, which is a very small place close to the city of Aurangabad. This holy place is a favorite of many devotees where many fairs and festivals are conducted every year.
