Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake is formed from a budding reservoir, which is created by the damming of Umiam River. Popular for thrilling water sports and a favorite hangout place, this place is located roughly 15 km from the city. The expansive man-made water body, sprawling over 10 sq. km is also known as “Bada Pani” because of its size. The state tourism department has established an Orchid Tourist Home, adjacent to the lake and has arranged for a thrilling water sports like kayaking, speed boats, sailing boats, row boats, paddle boats, cruise boats scooting, boating and water cycling.
Elephant Falls

The three stepped waterfall- popularly known as Elephant Falls is nestled 12 km from the main city. The name was given by the British- as it a rocky outcrop nearby resembled an elephant. However, the rock is not there now and had been demolished long ago due to a massive earthquake. The monsoon season brings more vibrancy to the tremendously bouncing waterfalls, and one can see the water gushing down in huge vigour. One may merge the vacation to Shillong Peak and Elephant Falls in one day as both are located quite close to each other.
Mawjymbuin Caves

Mawjymbuin Caves, one of the primary pulls of Shillong, is situated 56 km away from Shillong city. The natural caverns are snuggled on the world’s dampest site, Mawsynram. One will be needed to do some widening and unfolding and at real exercises while exploring the caves. The outstanding stalagmites observed in the caves are wonderful.
